Staten Island OutLOUD hosts a community reading & conversation on Prof. Phillip Pappas’ intriguing history text “That Ever Loyal Island” as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s Declaration of Independence.

Did you know that in 1776, Staten Island was considered a Tory stronghold? Join us as we examine this aspect of American history.

Free & open to the public. Free parking on the grounds of the Greenbelt Nature Center, and at the nearby Greenbelt Recreation Center, 501 Brielle Ave SINY 10314, located just a few hundred feet up Brielle (across from the Seaview Hospital grounds).

PLEASE NOTE: In January 2026, Prof. Papas published an article, “In Any Character Except That of a British Subject”, on the historic peace conference that took place on September 11, 1776 on Staten Island.
