Staten Island OutLOUD kicks off our NEA/Big Read event with fedoras and drinks, a reading & conversation on Dashiell Hammett’s “The Maltese Falcon”, and a book giveaway. Led by Island artist/photographer Gail Middleton.

What’s your favorite quote from Hammett’s classic noir novel?  Bring your fedora and a ‘wise guy’ attitude.

Wear your best “tough guy” or “mysterious broad” attire, and let your voice be heard!

Film Screening: “The Maltese Falcon” – St George

Sat, Oct 1, 2016, at 1pm.  St George Library Center, 5 Central Ave (@Hyatt St), SINY 10301

The beloved film adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel, this version of The Maltese Falcon features Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, and Sidney Greenstreet, among a distinguished cast.  Free & open to the public.  Plenty of parking on the surrounding streets.  The St George Library Center is just a half block from the ferry terminal, and close to all Staten Island public transportation.

Big Read & Little Readers: Paws & Read OutLOUD for Kidz @Richmondtown Library!

Thursday, Sept 29, 2016, 4pm.  Richmondtown Library, 200 Clarke Ave, SINY 10306

Staten Island OutLOUD hosts its special program for very young readers, Paws & Read OutLOUD for Kidz. Children ages 5-10 can practice their skills & have fun reading aloud to a gentle, licensed therapy dog. Their younger siblings can just sit back & enjoy being read to.
For the special Big Read for Little Readers OutLOUD event, we’ll focus on age-appropriate adaptations of “The Maltese Falcon”, including “The Malted Falcon”, stories about falcons, and other fun surprises.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or by an adult caregiver.

Plenty of free parking in the library’s parking lot and on surrounding streets.

Paws & Read OutLOUD – for Kids!

Staten Island OutLOUD invites young readers and their parents/guardians to join the fun in reading aloud to a gentle, licensed therapy dog.  JJ is a sweet canine girl who is a patient listener and who loves kids!

Kids – Bring your favorite book from home, or borrow a book from the library’s collection.  Then sit down and read to JJ.

Fun & free!  Hosted by Doris Nielsen, licensed therapy dog trainer – She’s also JJ’s mom!
